About M.2 SSD screws

Screws to secure your M.2 SSD to your motherboard will be included with the purchase of a Crucial P3, P3 Plus or P5 Plus series drive. Typically, the screw as well as a standoff for the screw are preinstalled in a ready-built system, or included in the packaging for your motherboard if built by the end-user, so that you have a screw which will fit perfectly in your system. You will want to check your system to see if these are already available before using the one that was provided with the Crucial drive.

M.2 Screw sizes are not standardized in all systems so if the screw that is included with your Crucial SSD does not fit into the standoff in your PC you will need to contact the system or motherboard manufacturer to find out the correct sizes needed. The system or motherboard manufacturer will be able to confirm the model you have and exactly what part specification is needed, possibly providing you with options for direct replacement or at least exact details on what to purchase from third party sources.

A relatively common size for replacement screws is an M2x0.4mm which is also the same screw size that we provide when purchasing one of the drives mentioned above. Be cautious when installing an M.2 SSD not to force this screw into place if it's not the right fit for your system. Rather than forcing the wrong threading or length into place and possibly damaging your hardware, consult your support resources for the appropriate parts needed to complete the SSD installation.
